#projectginswap part2: Newton House Gin
Updated: Jun 24
Through my Instagram and blog I’ve had many people from all over the world contact me about gin. From “hey have you tried this gin?” “You going to ginfestival?” “A fellow gin lover... how are you”
When you share a passion for the same thing with someone it’s easy to make conversation. That’s exactly what happened a few weeks ago. Started making small talk with some who I thought was just someone who loved gin. Turned out he was a distiller from Newton House Gin. He told me a little about the gin and went on to ask me if I wanted to try a sample. A week later I received a miniature through the post. Well you all know how much I love a miniature.
It accompanied a note which said #projectginswap without the swap.
I decided to try one of the cocktails they had one the website.
Newtons House Turkish Delight
50ml Newton House Gin
20ml homemade Rose Syrup
12.5ml of fresh Lemon Juice
1 Egg White
Dry shake (no ice) the above ingredients until frothy.
Add plenty of ice to the shaker and shake for eight seconds.
Strain and fine strain into a glass.
Add a dried rose for garnish.
Homemade rose syrup
One cup water
One cup sugar
Two cups of rose petals
Place the water and sugar in a pan and bring to boil. Stirring on occasion till sugar dissolves.
Once sugar has dissolved reduce heat to simmer.
Add rose petals and cook for 15 minutes.
Remove from heat and let it steep for 30 minutes.
Using a fine sieve, pour the syrup into a glass jar and store in the fridge.
